Our Story

JIB Square Foundation began as a project by a group of Humber students involved in ENACTUS, a network of leaders dedicated to using business to drive positive social and environmental change. ENACTUS encourages and supports young people to use innovation and entrepreneurship to tackle the world's biggest problems.

The idea for JIB Square Foundation emerged in February 2024 when the Enactus Humber students were preparing to compete against other innovative youth leaders across Central Canada. Recognizing a critical need to support post-secondary students facing hunger in Canada, the team decided to create an innovative, modern, and convenient solution. This led to the birth of JIB Square Foundation.

The Humber Enactus Team presented their idea at the ENACTUS Regional and National competitions, where it received enthusiastic praise from judges and the audience. Following this success, a team of experts from the nonprofit and business sectors was assembled to join the advisory board.

SquareMeal, originally a project under Enactus, evolved into a key initiative of the JIB Square Foundation.

Why are we doing this?

2021 National Student Food Insecurity Report by Meal Exchange, conducted on 13 university campuses across Canada highlighted the following: • Over 60% of Canadian post-secondary students can’t afford to eat balanced or nutritious meals. • 55% rely on low-cost foods in order to avoid running out of money. • 32% skip meals because they don't have enough money. Humber Student Success Survey (Updated: Dec 9, 2022): 49% of 10,720 respondents admitted they were facing food insecurity .

The JIB Square Foundation has a mission to reduce food insecurity in Canada. As a Nonprofit Organization, we partner with other entities that share the same values. We will also implement innovative ways to assist those facing food insecurity in Canada. The first project of the organization is SquareMeal.
